To amend Alabama law reforming the current Board of Registrars system to encourage appointments that fairly reflect the racial demographics of the county served, as well as to provide increased accountability, local notification and communication, state and local oversight, and minimum qualifications for appointments.

Bringing Clarity to Statements of Economic Interests

From the Alabama County Platform:

To establish a single deadline by which candidates affiliated with a political party must submit a completed statement of economic interests.

Streamlining the Sales & Use Tax Exemption Process

From the Alabama County Platform:

To formalize the process by which county commissions may opt into sales and use tax exemptions on an annual basis.

Increasing Opportunities for County Mutual Aid

To expand the scope of county-to-county mutual aid authority to include nondisaster emergencies and other events too great to be dealt with unassisted.

Allowing for Voluntary Coordination on 911 Services

To grant emergency communication districts the ability to coordinate public safety answering points to provide 911 services to the public more efficiently.

Delivering Dollars Earmarked for Local 911 Services

To revise the authorized usage and distribution of unclaimed funds from the State 911 Cost Recovery Account to equitably distribute funds for 911 operations in Alabama.

Expanding the Law Enforcement Toolkit

Providing Better Benefits to County Jailers

To allow correctional officers to become eligible for FLC credit in the Employees’ Retirement System upon completing training requirements approved by the Association of County Commissions of Alabama and the Alabama Sheriffs Association.

Honoring a “Legacy of Leadership”

To rename the Alabama Local Government Training Institute to honor the late O.H. “Buddy” Sharpless III, who spearheaded its creation to ensure the essential initial and ongoing education of individuals elected to county commission service.
